The first step is to choose your photos. This is the most important part in the commission process. Rule of thumb is “the better the photo, the better the portrait”
A couple things to keep in mind when selecting a photo for a portrait is Quality, Lighting, Turning Flash off, levels and Camera.
Quality- The very first thing i’m going to look for in a photograph is the quality, the clearer and more detail in a photo the better your portrait will be. Noses and eyes are important key features that are highly important that in the photo they are sharp and in focus. I won’t be able to work from blurry photos
Lighting- When taking that perfect photo of your pet natural light, preferably outdoors is best.
Turning Flash off- If possible please avoid using flash, it can cause problems, take away detail in the photo, red-eye or eye glowing affect.
Levels- Best angles are at eye level with your pet. Looking down on your pet can look unflattering and unnatural to the eye.
Cameras- If possible, use a proper photo camera or have a photographer come take photographs of your pet. These can result in sharper, detailed and better lit photos. While phone cameras can tend to be less detailed and a litter darker. However i would be more than happy to use photos from a phone as long as they are clear and readable.
If you have multiple pets, you don’t need one photo. I can take multiple photos and put them together, just as long as the photo is readable and i have at least one photo to have in comparison for size..
